In brief. Published prices for an adult ADHD assessment in Australia in 2026 range from about $600 to $1,500 for a private psychiatrist (item 291 attracts a Medicare rebate of $467.45 once every 12 months with a GP referral), about $1,300 to $2,500 for psychologist-led assessment packages (no rebate), and $200 to $800 for GP-led telehealth services, usually with an ongoing monthly plan. Inner Help's assessment is opening late 2026 and its price will be published in full before it opens.
What drives the price
- Who assesses you. Psychiatrists charge the most and attract the largest rebate. Psychologist-led assessments cannot lead to medication. GP-led telehealth models are cheaper and newer, and depend on state prescribing rules.
- The workup. Referral, ECG and blood tests are usually bulk-billed or rebated when your own GP orders them.
- What comes after. Reviews, scripts and letters are often priced separately; check whether they are included.
Medicare and private health
Psychiatrist assessments and reviews attract Medicare rebates with a GP referral. Psychologist assessments do not. Private health extras rarely cover assessment. Psychology sessions for support attract rebates under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, which is how Inner Help therapy works today.
